De Uil

In augustus 2018 ontvingen we de volgende mail van Ewout Van-Manen uit Engeland
Near where I live, is a beautiful river with many Dutch boats. I like to cycle along the river and I have many friends on the boats. I always liked De Uil when I cycled past but only a few weeks ago did I manage to speak to the owner. She was not sure what type the vessel was and had heard it was a Schouw but the surveyor (stupid) told her it was a Grundel. I told her that it was a Tholense Schouw. She is called De Uil and, as far as I can gather she has always been called that. She was built in the late fifties and her measurements are virtually the same as De Uil in the stamboek. I think it depends how you measure her.
Dr Perks, the owner has very little history of the boat, mainly stuff she has been told by the previous owner (also a woman). I believe that after H. Pick owned her she was taken to England. She was in London for many years and quite neglected. She is now in Woodbridge, Suffolk, England.
The current owner is working hard to restore her. Soon the mast and sails will be ready and she will sail again.

De Tholense schouw 'De Uil' wordt (voorlopig) Opgeschort in het Stamboek
We hadden vanaf 1974 nooit meer iets van deze Tholense schouw gehoord of gezien. Nu duikt ze op in Engeland en blijkt het schip op verschillende punten strijdig te zijn met de geldende Criteria. Voor zover we dat op de foto's kunnen zien: de kleurstelling en delen van de opbouw op het schip zoals de grote ankerlier.
